Album Release Show

Day 181. Year of Queens. We’re just trying to connect with you…

Day 182. Year of Queens. That’s @kevin.moloney.music - just the music producer for Sinead O’Connor. He appeared from a ray of light shining in the mountains and started to hang out with us and then recorded “Love Is Punk” with us. Love is noisy. Love is DIY. Love is anti-establishment. Love is kind. Love is believing. Love is also being a good friend - like Kevin Moloney.

Day 183. Year of Queens. Playing with a band is trying to push at the boundaries of reality. We’re trying to create something more than the some of the parts, the individuals in the band. When we get together we’re trying to create a larger energy force than is the sum of each individual life force. We’re small quiet people when we are alone - but when we are together we are 100 feet tall and dancing in the sky.

Day 184. Year of Queens. If you all want one more excuse to come out to the Dark City Kings album release show on Saturday night with @theloverfacesband at @shilohandgaines - this is it. My friend John owns Shiloh & Gains and he owns Zella’s Deli. Zella’s is in Swannanoa and barely stands on interstate 70 with its back wall washed away by the flood. Nearly three months later the remains of the building stands there - a shell - but it is still a testament to the owners and servers and commitment to good food and community. There is no door charge on Saturday night so come along and buy LOTS of drinks and tip the staff LOTS of money and fill John’s establishment with LOTS of kindness and good energy and hope.

Day 185. Year of Queens. A nation needs a language. That statement also works as a metaphor. What are our truths? The mountains are wild. The weather and the creeks and stream are both beautiful and dangerous. Wild animals wander the land. Mythic creatures wander the woods. The original people saw this area as a rich abundance. Artists have lived here too. The stars above tell our story. People drink on porches and gather around to make music. A hangover and a coffee are signs of a good Sunday morning. Friendships connect on a deeper level. The future is unwritten.

Day 186. Year of Queens. The most radical change happened about a year ago. We decided that Dark City Kings wouldn’t be about turns or individual sounds and songwriting wouldn’t be about bringing a finished product to the band. We would all aim toward one idea, one sound, one goal, pull one wagon, be engines for one ship. It would not be about making my part of the song the best - it would be about making the song the best. It would not be about finding ways to make me stand out - but making the song a stand out. This is our best attempt at making something beautiful together as a collective. Hope you enjoy the show tonight.

Day 187. Thanks to @shilohandgaines and thanks to @theloverfacesband and to everyone who came out for the show last night. Just a great fun evening!
